Messy Women is a playful exhibition dwelling on female stereotypes. My friend Messapotamia LeFae is gender-nonconforming and has been my muse for many years. We created this series together in a silly, collaborative spirit with lots of laughing and talking about what it means to be a woman. The paintings are not only about the messiness of trying to fit women into nice, neat gender boxes, but they are also about Messy herself. A person of subversion, candor, and grace.
